컨벤션센터, 호텔 등과 같이 전통적인 MICE 행사장소가 아닌 참가자들에게 이국적인 분위기를 제공하고 행사의 차별성을 높일 수 있는 장소를 의미한다. 또한, 유니크베뉴는 전문 컨벤션센터가 제공하지 못하는 독특한 장소성을 바탕으로 중소규모 행사를 유치하고, 지역경제를 활성화 시키는데 중요한 역할을 하는 MICE산업의 핵심 인프라 중 하나이다. 충북의 유니크베뉴는 충청북도와 충북연구원이 협력하여 2020년 처음으로 19개소를 발굴·선정하였으며, 2023년에는 청남대가 문화체육관광부의 ‘코리아 유니크베뉴’에 선정되는 성과를 거두었다. 하지만, 기존의 충북 유니크베뉴가 선정된지 2년이 경과함에 따라서 그 동안의 변동사항에 대한 수정·보완과 유니크베뉴 추가 발굴의 필요성이 제기되고 있는 상황이다. 이에 본 연구는 유니크베뉴 관련 2회차 연구로서 기존 유니크베뉴 현황에 대한 업데이트뿐만 아니라, 신규 유니크베뉴 선정과정의 객관성과 체계성을 확보하여 보다 경쟁력 있는 유니크베뉴를 선정하는데 주안점을 두고 수행되었다. 또한, 연구결과는 충청북도의 유니크베뉴 홍보·마케팅을 위한 간행물 제작의 기초자료로 활용되었다. 충북 유니크베뉴 선정은 총 5단계로 과정으로 수행되었다. 먼저, 2020년에 선정된 유니크베뉴에 대한 현황조사 및 추가 후보지 목록을 도출하였다. 2단계에서는 선행연구 검토를 통해 충북 유니크베뉴 선정기준(안)을 도출한 후 전문가 의견조사를 통해 최종 선정기준을 확정하였다. 3단계에서는 확정된 충북 유니크베뉴 선정기준을 토대로 연구진 서류평가를 실시하였으며, 4단계에서는 추가로 선정된 유니크베뉴와 기존 유니크베뉴 일부에 대한 현장평가를 수행하였다. 마지막 단계에서는 평가결과를 종합하여 기존 19개소와 신규 7개소를 포함한 총 26개소의 유니크베뉴를 최종 선정하였다. 연구결과의 활용과 충북 유니크베뉴 활성화를 위한 정책제언은 다음과 같다. 첫 번째는 유니크베뉴 관련 정보공유 및 정책의제 발굴 등을 위해 선정된 유니크베뉴 사업체를 중심으로 한 ‘충북 유니크베뉴 협의체’를 구축할 필요가 있다. 다음으로, 선정된 유니크베뉴를 지역의 자산으로 인식하고 활용할 수 있는 지역연계 시스템을 구축하여 활용성을 강화해야 한다. 세 번째는 행정조직, 사업체 등 다양한 이해관계자가 MICE산업 및 유니크베뉴 운영에 대해 이해도와 전문성을 높일 수 있도록 교육프로그램을 운영할 필요가 있다. 마지막으로, 선정된 유니크베뉴의
