The purpose of this study is to develop strategies to promote and foster the Urban Air Mobility (UAM) industry in Chungcheongbuk-do. UAM is a next-generation air transportation system that uses electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft to transport passengers and cargo within urban areas, gaining attention for its eco-friendliness and efficiency. This study analyzes domestic and international UAM industry trends and assesses the current state and competitiveness of related industries in the region to propose tailored strategies for the development of the local UAM industry. Chungcheongbuk-do is developing an aviation industry cluster centered around Cheongju International Airport, with a foundation in drone industries and aircraft component manufacturing. This serves as a favorable factor for fostering the UAM industry. However, Chungcheongbuk-do needs to make strategic choices to secure industrial attractiveness in terms of initial investment and infrastructure. In the UAM service market, Chungcheongbuk-do faces a limitation in market size compared to the Seoul metropolitan area or major metropolitan cities.

Nevertheless, the province should prepare for new industrial opportunities by connecting with the river and aviation infrastructure of Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungnam. To foster the UAM industry, Chungcheongbuk-do needs to establish pilot routes and demonstration infrastructure, secure capabilities for developing aircraft and core components, create localized UAM services, build UAM alliances, and develop tourism and logistics-linked services as part of its execution strategies.
