 [ABSTRACT]

❍ Green biotechnology a new growth engine in the agricultural and food sector, is a field that creates high added value by applying biotechnology to agricultural bioresources, and has recently emerged as an alternative to future food shortages due to population growth and climate change.

    - The global green biotechnology market is worth approximately $1.2 trillion in 2020 and is expected to more than double by 2030.

    - The domestic green biotechnology market is expected to reach KRW 5.4 trillion in 2020, or 0.3% of the global market, and form a market worth KRW 12.5 trillion in 2030.

❍ Green biotechnology is divided into food crops, livestock, food, and natural/bio materials, and core technologies include breeding technology, microbiome-based technology, veterinary medicine technology, and alternative meat technology.

❍ In major countries such as the United States, Europe, and Japan, government investment in research and development across red, green, and white biotechnology is expanding to realize a sustainable economy.

❍ In order to secure the competitiveness of the green bio industry, the government announced the “Green Bio Convergence New Industry Promotion Plan” in September 2020, and in February 2023, the government announced three major industries through the “Green Bio Industry Development Strategy” in February 2023 to accelerate industrialization.

❍ Chungcheongbuk-do has been focusing on fostering the bio industry, its main industry, and formed a bio-related forward and backward industrial ecosystem. As of 2021, the production scale of the bio industry is 2.0628 trillion won, ranking 3rd in Korea.

❍ The Chungcheongbuk-do region has an industrial structure centered on food manufacturing, which is a forward industry in the green bio value chain, and food products are included as a major industry in all regions except Danyang-gun.

❍ As of 2020, the number of green bio small and medium-sized venture companies in North Chungcheong Province is 79, ranking second in the country, which means there is a sufficient pool of green bio companies.

❍ 28 bio-related organizations have been established and are in operation, enabling cooperation in the discovery of green bio materials and raw materials, cooperation in research and development and commercialization, technological and industrial exchange, and support for market development.

❍ By nurturing and supplying industry experts at universities in the Chungbuk region and actively utilizing research and development capabilities in specialized and specialized technological fields, it is possible to establish a connection and cooperation system to support green bio startups.

❍ By nurturing and supplying industry experts at universities in the Chungbuk region and actively utilizing research and development capabilities in specialized and specialized technological fields, it is possible to establish a connection and cooperation system to support green bio startups.

❍ Chungcheongbuk-do has many mountains and a considerable farming population, so rather than focusing on cultivating specific regions like Red Biotechnology it is necessary to select fields that fit the characteristics of each region and foster distributed clusters.

    - Based on the results of the analysis of the green bio industry status in Chungcheongbuk-do, regional specialized fields such as Chungju (food), Jecheon (natural products), and Cheongju (microorganisms, veterinary medicine) were selected.

    - It is necessary to establish a green bio industry control tower and create a green bio industry ecosystem utilizing the abundant physical and human infrastructure of the bio health industry formed in the region.

    - We need to strengthen human resources capabilities by establishing a joint development system of green bio experts and providing user-centered customized professional education and training that can be immediately applied to corporate sites.

    - There is a need to develop the green bio industry by linking the bio-health industry, an important industry in Chungcheongbuk-do, with leading digital technologies and the green bio industry, utilizing related infrastructure and securing the growth potential of local companies.
