 [ABSTRACT]

This study comprehensively examines the current conditions of energy transition in Chungcheongbuk-do (North Chungcheong Province) and proposes strategic directions for building a sustainable regional energy system. In light of recent changes in national energy policy—driven by climate crisis response, carbon neutrality commitments, and industrial restructuring—the research aims to identify the province’s challenges and develop feasible policy alternatives tailored to its specific context.

The analysis begins with a review of domestic and international trends in energy transition policies and technologies, followed by an assessment of Chungcheongbuk-do’s energy supply and demand structure as well as its power generation facilities. The findings show that solar power accounts for the largest share of the province’s generation capacity, exceeding 60%, while a significant concentration of facilities exists in certain localities. Moreover, the industrial and commercial sectors dominate energy consumption, and the adoption of renewable energy remains uneven across regions.

Based on these insights, the study highlights several key priorities for Chungcheongbuk-do’s energy transition: expanding renewable energy and distributed power systems, promoting environmentally friendly industrial transformation, strengthening community-based energy governance, and fostering local technological talent and business capacity. The study emphasizes the importance of aligning regional initiatives with the national carbon neutrality agenda while ensuring local autonomy and sustainability.

In conclusion, the research presents the “Chungbuk Energy Transition Strategy for Carbon Neutrality and Regional Co-prosperity.” This strategy aims to balance energy supply and demand, leverage region-specific resources, and establish an integrated implementation framework combining industrial transformation with public participation. Ultimately, it seeks to position Chungcheongbuk-do as a leading province in sustainable energy transition and balanced regional development.
