 [ABSTRACT]

Unique Venue refers to a venue that provides participants with an exotic atmosphere, distinguishing it from traditional MICE event venues such as convention centers and hotels. Moreover, Unique Venues play a crucial role in the MICE industry as a core infrastructure by attracting and hosting medium-sized events based on unique spatial characteristics that conventional convention centers may not offer, thereby contributing to the activation of the local economy. In 2020, Chungcheongbuk-do collaborated with Chungbuk Research Institute to discover and select 19 Unique Venues. By 2023, Cheongnamdae achieved recognition as "Korea Unique Venue" by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. However, as two years have passed since the initial selection of Unique Venues in Chungbuk, there is a recognized need for adjustments, improvements, and additional discoveries to accommodate changes that may have occurred. Consequently, this research represents the second study on Unique Venues, aiming not only to update the current status but also to ensure objectivity and systematic processes in selecting more competitive Unique Venues. The research findings also serve as fundamental data for creating promotional and marketing materials to enhance the visibility of Unique Venues in Chungbuk. The process of selecting Unique Venues in Chungbuk consisted of five stages. Initially, a survey of the current status and a list of additional candidate sites were compiled for the Unique Venues selected in 2020. In the second stage, the criteria for selecting Unique Venues in Chungbuk were derived through a review of prior studies, and final criteria were established through expert opinion surveys. The third stage involved document evaluations by the research team based on the finalized criteria for selecting Unique Venues. In the fourth stage, on-site evaluations were conducted for additional and some existing Unique Venues. Finally, the evaluation results were comprehensively analyzed to determine the final selection of 26 Unique Venues, including the existing 19 and 7 new ones. Policy recommendations for utilizing research results and activating Unique Venues in Chungbuk are as follows. Firstly, to promote information sharing and policy development related to Unique Venues, it is essential to establish the "Chungbuk Unique Venue Council" centered around selected Unique Venue businesses. Secondly, recognizing and utilizing selected Unique Venues as regional assets require the establishment of a regional collaboration system to enhance their usability. Thirdly, to increase understanding and expertise among various stakeholders, including administrative organizations and businesses, educational programs on MICE industry and Unique Venue operations should be implemented. Lastly, to ensure sustainable operational activation of selected Unique Venues, introducing a quality management system and operating a consulting system are recommended.
